Véleménycsokor az albumról

2013. április 07. - Szigi.

- I think same as Dave. Heaven is the strongest track on Delta (that does not mean it is the best though).
- Songs are much better than SOTU. Also in my opinion much better than 70% of PTA.
- BH was an awful decision. Almost all songs suffer from production. None of the songs goes anywhere, same things we saw with PTA and SOTU. You can clearly see it in Heaven for example. Mid 8 consists of chords and kind of instrumental verses. No melodies, no atmosphere (same goes with All That’s Mine -as you can already see- and others). Such a shame as there are really some very strong songs Mart has written in a long time.
- I have the feeling that they will strugle a bit to adopt most of the songs to live set. Will not be surprised if we will see only 5 or max 6 songs from Delta on the set-list.
I am really looking for tomorrow to see how they will perform these new tracks live… And which ones.

—Heaven sounds like nothing else on the album—Angel is representative but one of the weakest tracks IMO
—I’ll stick my neck out and guess that Secret To The End (excellent), Should Be Higher (excellent) and Soothe My Soul (the weakest tracks) are all Dave tracks. I’m not sure about Broken (a true standout), which has both some very Martin touches but also some clumsy lyrical non-sequitors. The rest are pure Martin
—it’s uptempo, harsh, with bursts and breaks of bluesy guitar: VCMG meets PTA.
—this whups the sorry little pale arse of SOTU, although the lack of something as instantly classic as Precious might mean that it’s not quite up there with PTA. But close.

The good news is that the single ‘Heaven’ is a fake-out: the rest of Delta Machine is harder and weirder

“The Child Inside”: begins with a solemn Mingus-y bass line that adds big synth pads and flourishes of electronics
“My Little Universe”: minimal techno track that actually mostly works
“Slow” & “Goodbye”:  Martin Gore take on blues. Big blues guitar line, a hazy Spiritualized-style gospel choir
“Soft Touch/Raw Nerve”: is a revision of history where DM was more industrial than pop
“Should Be Higher”: A death-disco creeper track is by far the best track on the album, classic, sounds fresh.
“Should Be Higher”: also got the best mix, you can’t forget once you hear it the first time - it’s a sizzle.
