With Dave Gahan said Reinhold Hönle
Mr. Gahan, what you learned from the 142-concert-marathon with her last CD for the coming tournee?
Dave Gahan: Were 142 gigs? Wow! I had not realized that we made with 'Sounds Of The Universe "as many concerts. Since the exchange within the band is much more intense than in the past, I would do the concerts much more joy. I felt more challenged and with drummer Christian Eigner and guitarist Martin Gore right behind my support better.
In the last 30 years you gave 16 concerts in Switzerland. How much of it remains in world travelers like them liable?
I'm always happy occurred in Switzerland. Unfortunately, especially the concert in 1998, has impressed in Zurich, where I lost my voice on stage. She was completely gone, and I felt that they would not come back that night. This is scary for a singer, the worst experience you can imagine.
How did you deal with it?
It was a struggle. When we are on the next tour again occurred at the Hallenstadion, it cost me big overcome to enter this stage, but afterwards when I had the feeling that they're off to a great performance, it was also an enormous satisfaction.
Benefit singing markedly from healthier life that you lead today?
Determined. To become aware of its power to be on stage and to register his emotions is great, but the next day wake up and remember all too can - this is an extremely good feeling. I can not imagine to live again as I have done previously. I was often driven by alcohol and drugs. That works for me no more, probably it has never done.
Why have you used them?
I think it was an attempt to console myself that I did not enjoy our lives more. When I noticed the mid-nineties that the drug produced no more relaxing, and I had to change my lifestyle, was the application of this knowledge some of the most difficult things I've ever done.
How do you live today?
I try the talent that I have to bear, worry. It takes discipline, but it's worth it. If I want to go on tour, I arrange everything in my fitness. I want to go on stage rested. The times when I sang all night in bars are over.
Many bands have been inspired by Depeche Mode. What they like specifically?
I'm not looking for bands that mention our name to me then to hear how they sound. To be honest: I do not listen much pop music. Besides, if I really like an album. The last one ran at me up and down, was "I Predict A Graceful Expulsion" of Cold Specks. I love her musical background, the timbre of her voice and the singer who sounds a lot older than she really is.
One of her biggest hits "Enjoy the Silence" is. When you enjoy the rest?
Between making music, I'm glad to have something to calm me. I have, fortunately, a small house on the beach. There I retire sometimes. This is a very inspiring place.
What can you tell us already on the CD that you publish in the spring?
It is an electro album, but heavily influenced by the blues. I would classify between "Violator" and "Songs Of Faith And Devotion".
